MANUFACTURE : le tour des meilleurs fabricants britanniques

Il y a 8 ans le magazine Esquire produisait un documentaire de référence en 8 parties intitulé MANUFACTURE et consacré aux plus grands fabricants Britanniques, principalement dans le textile. Un voyage de plus de 2500 kilomètres commenté par le designer Patrick Grant - il est derrière les marques Norton & Sons, E. Tautz et Community Clothing dont on avait déjà parlé.

Un des rares reportages qui permettait de découvrir de l’intérieur ce que l’on peut estimer comme certains des meilleurs fabricants britanniques de maille du marché : William Lockie, Johnstons of Elgin, John Smedley, Sunspel ou encore Corgi.
Sans oublier les autres fabricants : pour les fils (Todd & Duncan), les tissus (Fox Brothers) ou encore les imperméables (Mackintosh)…On rappellera également qu’à cette époque la plupart d’entre eux n’étaient pas aussi visibles qu’aujourd’hui. A titre d’exemple, Joshua Ellis a lancé sa marque en propre en 2014 et son site e-commerce en 2018.

Ce type de reportage était donc vraiment salutaire il y a encore 10 ans et est toujours d’actualité aujourd’hui.
